QOTD #00137: “Disco Inferno! Do you remember your first school dance? How did it go?”
will go here! :)

My confession
Looking like a disco ball
"Um, so, we don't have school dances. But we have blue light discos and that are run by the police. So, I went to my first one when I was in year seven. It was the early nineties, and body glitter gel was a thing. So, I stayed at a girlfriend's house, and the only thing I can really remember is her and the body glitter gel. She'd caked that much onto her face. I thought she looked like a disco ball. And when we got there, she just shone like a disco ball. It was crazy. But I had a great time, and it was a good first dance."

No dancing allowed at prom
"Ah man. So, uh, I went to a super conservative, religious, almost cult-like school, and we did not have a first dance. Dancing was of the devil. We didn't even have a prom. We actually had what we called a promquet. Uh, so no dancing, even at the prom, just a banquet food and, uh, that was my experience of dancing."

Homeschooled = no school dances
"Yeah, so, uh, I was actually home-schooled, so, so no, I did not attend any school dances. And, uh, when I was of age, I really wasn't necessarily the smoothest guy, so I didn't- I wasn't flirting with anybody to go to school dances with anyway, so it didn't really matter, and based on what I've heard of school dances, I don't think I missed out on much."

There were so many chaperones!
"Oh, yeah. Very awkward experience, I remember, because there were so many chaperones. It was middle school, so you had to have, like, a chaperone for every five kids or something crazy. And we were all awkward middle schoolers, so we were all too afraid to approach anybody of the opposite gender, and we all didn't know how to dance, so... Yeah, I remember it quite well, actually. I was terrified of school dances after that."

Busted out a breakdancing move
"Do I remember my first school dance, and how did it go? It was so-so. Like, I spent a majority of time like maybe, like, 90% of the time against the wall staring at everyone going, how does everyone know how to dance? Have they been practicing at home? And- But I did have a good friend. And he was like, Daniel, get off the wall, do your little dance. So, I ended up doing like a backspin, a break-dancing move and everyone cheered, but that was it, and I think I went right back to the wall."

We rolled my friend around on Heelys
"I think my first school dance was in middle school or something, and I don't remember a whole lot, but I remember going with some friends and just kind of hanging out, doing some line dances. And one friend in particular was wearing some Heelys and so she put her hands on our shoulders, and we would walk her around while she's rolling around on her Heelys, and it was just a good time altogether. So, that's what I remember."

A lot going on with the outfits
"Ah, first school dance. I don't- I- I actually don't have much memory of it probably because it was so traumatizing, but I have seen photos of the outfit I was wearing and it was just- There was a lot of stripes in a lot of different directions, and, um, I mean, that's probably why I- I, sort of, blocked it all out, because it was just so awkward."
