QOTD #00020: “What's the most embarrassing job you ever had?”
Everyone falls in hard times and in those times, we'll take what we can get! Tree in the school play, zoo pooper-scooper, human traffic cone. Sometimes you need a little extra cash. What's an embarassing job that you have taken?
Alana B
Providence, RI
Feeling the drip at Dunkin' Donuts.
"My most embarrassing job was taking out the trash at Dunkin' Donuts. I would have to do it in front of everybody in the driveway and the trash was really big, and it would be dripping juice from the bottom. It was really nasty, but you gotta do what you gotta do."
Nathan F
Meridian, ID
Posing for prom pics.
"The most embarrassing job I ever had was probably during college. I responded to an ad on Craigslist looking for, like, models for, like, a prom supply company. So I had to go and pose and take pictures that are on, like, keychains and picture frames in their catalog. And my my best friends still to this-"
Jace B
Washington, D.C.
A poo-poo job.
"Probably would have to be shoveling manure."
Evan J
Indianapolis, In
Picking up golf balls at the driving range. By hand.
"I would say, uh, I, uh, worked at a golf course picking, uh, range balls off the, uh, range, and the first day that I did it, I broke the, uh, the, uh, range picker, um, and then I had to pick the range by hand. Um, pretty much sucked."
Kimberly T
Sacramento, CA
Not great with face paint.
"Most embarrassing job? A face painter. I don't know why it's embarrassing, but I wasn't good at it."
Camille G
Nashville, TN
The host next door.
"The most embarrassing job that I ever had was actually working at a Denny's, which is, uh, like a 24-hour, uh, food place. It was embarrassing because it was right across from the high school, so everyone I was going to high school with would come and see me being a host at Denny's."
Ximena Z
Alexandria, VA
No shame serving at the bank.
"Well, I don't think that any job is embarrassing because job is, like, dignifies you. But I think I think I work in in a bank as a secretary and I had to serve coffee and stuff, and I didn't like that. But it's not embarrassing."
Mady S
Westfield, NJ
Highway cleanup, but it's not what you think.
"The most embarrassing job that I've ever had is just picking up trash along the highway. And yes, it was a job. No, I wasn't in trouble."
Jeraldine R
Colorado Springs, CO
Those kids were a nightmare.
"I would have to say babysitting. It it just was an embarrassing - just it was my first job. I was 16 and it was a nightmare. I'm not great with children - back then, at least, and I guess I would say it was the most embarrassing one. And customer service."
Tracy M
New York, NY
Chaos in the changing rooms.
"The most embarrassing job I had was running the changing rooms in Macy's Herald Square. It was just chaotic, and the demands I got from people was pretty ridiculous."
Kimberly B
USA
Just a horrible boss.
"Honestly, I've never had an embarrassing job, but I have had a job where the boss was not very nice. He was extremely condescending, so..."
Amanda Y
Austin, TX
Crying to take pictures.
"So I wouldn't say it was the job itself that was incredibly embarrassing, but I was just very not good at one part of it. I was a photographer and had to do studio sessions with kids, and I'm not good with kids, and so more often than not, they ended up crying."
James B
Los Angeles, CA
A crowd full and a face fuller.
"The most embarrassing job I've ever had was to tarp a field during a minor league baseball game, uh, any time it would rain and there was a rain delay, uh, because all the players and all the fans are all watching you, um, and you don't know what you're doing. And sometimes I would run a little too fall and slip and face-plant in front of eight thousand people."
Parker H
Atlanta, GA
Clearing table not too bad, but a salsa bath
"Super lucky that I had never worked an embarrassing job, but I used to work as a busser in a Mexican restaurant in high school, and we had these disgusting tubs full of water that we put all the salsa bowls in before they got cleaned, and it was literally just bowl, water, salsa chips. It w-"
Sadie K
Strattford, NH
Serving my banana-brain classmates.
"For a period of time in college, I had to work for the dining hall, which doesn't sound that embarrassing, but the t-shirt I had to wear was the the color of a banana, and everyone I went to classes with, like, immediately saw me and was, like - I I was mortified. They were all making fun of me, and I had to, like, serve them food. It was awful. That was probably the worst job I've ever had."
Alexis B
Colfax, NC
I was a polar bear!
"Hands down, the most embarrassing job I ever had was as a birthday hostess at, like, a little kids' play area that was attached to an ice rink. And inherently that is not embarrassing, but when the parents requested that the polar bear mascot make an appearance, that was me."

A struggle for bare backs (and bare sandwiches).
"I once had a a summer job where, uh, we worked for the county digging thistles, which, for anyone who doesn't know, is a a noxious weed that's spiny and it hurts when it falls on your bare back, which most of our backs were bare most of the time because we did the work shirtless because we were 17 and it was the middle of July in Nebraska. Uh, we would sleep on the tailgate of the pickup that hauled us between stops, and one time my coworker, Dean, stole my lunch and made fun of my sandwich because it was deli meat and cheese without mayo or any kind of sandwich dressing. Yeah, low-class."
Per K.
Princeton, NJ
Being Uncle Sam was scary in French.
"Scary or embarrassing, I'm not really sure, but I once lived in Paris, and I got a job dressing us - up as Uncle Sam and standing in the American Express and answering questions about the United States to French people who are curious, in French. That was scary."
